There is a need now both when I first said yes to FOCUS and today during these strange times. Today in light of covid, there are spiritual realities of poverty of faith at this time. Many are without faith, without the witness of great mentors and the community of people striving to be saints. I’m a fourth year FOCUS Team Director at Mount St. Mary’s University. 

There is this call to greatness to serve the Lord, serve the poor, serve each other. We have to reach out, meet people where they are at and see how we can help each other make leaps of faith. We are made to be in relationship with God. I have seen Jesus make miracles in my life. In my last year at JMU, I had many tough times and challenges, but Jesus and a great Catholic community drew me out of myself. I had a heart for people. I had to make a decision as to what I should do with my life. I had to trust in God and ask, “What do you want for my life, for my gifts and for my talents?” Like a sheep to a good shepherd, I ask God, ask myself and ask many mentors, priests and friends about what should I do with my life. Ultimately through prayer and much discernment, I said yes to FOCUS, because they were an apostolate I know I would grow so much in and would thrive as a missionary in service to the Lord. Now I am leading a team at Boston University and doing so well with all our Bible studies, events, fellowship, and prayer.

The world needs Jesus Christ and His Church now more than ever. In my time as a missionary, I’ve been “urged on by love of Christ to proclaim the Good News everywhere in the world” (CCC 3). I’ve enjoyed having Bible studies even if it is virtual, doing online happy hours, doing formation with my team and many students, and taking hours and hours to pray and simply lift thousands of intentions to God.

I hope to truly and fully give my life to God and to others.
